Healthy Hearts Career Fair
UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital and Healthy Hearts program hosted a Career Fair for students in the St. Vrain Valley School District on July 24. The fair allowed students to talk to health care professionals to learn about all the different health care careers which included physicians, nurses, pharmacists, radiology, nutritionists, therapists, etc. Health educators and clinicians offered smoothies made by a participant powering a blender on a bike. Also, students and parents received biometric screenings, bike helmets, and more. Dr. Maria Herrera also received a helmet and shared that her team recently treated a patient who was in serious condition due to a bike accident that happened when he wasn’t wearing a helmet. If a person is in a bike accident, helmets reduce odds of a head injury by 51%. LPH Foundation underwrote the event and bike helmet giveaway.
