Your generosity helps save lives

Longs Peak Hospital joined a collaboration with Longmont United Hospital and the City of Longmont to launch Stop the Bleed trainings for teachers in the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD). Foundation supporters made it possible for us to contribute 140 Stop the Bleed kits, including 20 kits placed with trained teachers at six local high schools. The American College of Surgeons developed the Stop the Bleed program to save lives by educating people on how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and intervene effectively.

“Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death in trauma,” said Val Peaslee, LPH trauma services manager. “The greater the number of people who know how to control bleeding in an injured patient, the greater the chances of survival. SVVSD teachers have shared their excitement in learning these skills, and several even said that they plan to buy tourniquets as stocking stuffers this Christmas for their family members to have on hikes and in their cars.”
