Many inpatients at Longs Peak Hospital have a beautiful view outside their windows, while others look upon a roof. The rooftop of our hospital presented an opportunity to use visual arts to promote healing and thereby improve the hospital experience for patients and their families.
Thanks to our donors and to DuraPlaq, a local art solutions company, a gorgeous installation of 55 art panels now enlivens the rooftop air handlers at the hospital. DuraPlaq dreamed with us and became a major contributor to the project, in addition to creating and installing it.
This large-scale environmental art installation includes more than 1,700 feet of direct-printed aluminum panels, which adorn the fenced rooftop air-handling units that support the east and west wings of our facility.
“Visual art is often an element in healing,” says Ashley Kasprzak, development officer for the foundation. “The rooftop art is an aesthetic enhancement and an improvement to the patient experience.”
The aesthetic improvement came to culmination after nine months of planning, multiple design concepts, fabrication and installation. The end product is a sun-drenched rendition of the Rocky Mountains with winding streams and country roads leading through mountain passes.
